Reason 4 announced - world braces for impact

It's the moment Reason users have been waiting for - Propellerhead have officially announced Reason 4 on their website. Click here to check it out.

As well as giving details of the new instruments and effects (including Thor, RPG-8 and the ReGroove Mixer), Propellerhead also announced that they're looking for Reason 4 beta testers, so get over there if you'd like to try Reason 4 before anyone else.

Other revisions include new patches in the Factory Sound Bank, signature patches from a variety of producers (including Vengeance, Tipper and Plaid), new Tool window, improved sequencer and tweaked NN-XT and Combinator instruments.

There's no mention of improved sound quality, which is one improvement Reason users have been anticipating for a while now. While Reason 4's new features look enticing, will they be enough for Reason users hungry for VST compatibility and audio tracks? We'll have to wait until later in the year when Reason 4 launches to find out for sure...

In the meantime, here's a screenshot to tantalise you – click to view it full size:

they wont listen because they've explained why they wont listen before: Rewire. You can plug Reason into any sequencer with audio tracking/vst/dx/au/rtas....

I'm looking forward to the ReGroove sequencer more than anything else I think. Should be awesome.

I'm lookin forward to saving sessions as a project in Reason 4, so you don't have any missing files, say like from Dr.Rex, Redrum, ect.

MORE AUTOMATION CAPABILITIES, especially FOR THE NN-XT.

They don't need to add audio tracks when people will wire into a DAW software program (i.e. cubase, pro tools, cakewalk, etc) anyway. I guess they are concentrating on being a master at what they do best.

Audio Tracks! I couldn't agree more..why is there not a wave a multi tracker in the modules? Yes you can plug reason into vst...but thats such a conveluted way to do it and why run 2 programs when you could do it all in one if reason had a multi tracker on the time line for audio.
So frustrating!!

Im looking forward to the rpg-8. Thor just looks like a life sentance to the bedroom (goodbye wife). I am not that bothered about having no audio tracks as im so used to recording out side the prog, and plus it makes my sound more origional cos i spend more time thinging
how to make a sound rather than ripping it off (this is fom a purly elctronic view and i do see the point of view of people with live instuments having to shed out on sx3 etc).

Reason 4 = wife mmmmmmm

If propellerhead included Audio tracks in Reason, they would make a awesome product even better. They should take advantage of the market, as the market is aksing for it. It will mean that they will sell a lot more the product.

I agree with the above comments. Propellerhead should stop being so pig headed over this issue of audio tracks. It would be the ultimate app if they sorted this out. Come on Propellerheads! The world needs you!

No doubt the reason for omitting audio tracks yet again is so that when they eventually run out of ideas for sytnhs + effects they'll finally whack them in and release yet another version we'll all have to go out and buy. Hats off to them though, Reason = Best all in one.

I have longing for audio tracks since the first version of Reason hit the market. With every new version I’ve thought, maybe this time, but alas :-(

You simply don’t want to mess with other apps which slow down your system and lags everything. Think of the beauty of having audio tracks among the other tracks in the Reason sequencer. To be able to record lead vocals, guitars and chorus, and to apply Reasons real time effects on your audio tracks. That would surely make Reason every home musician’s wet dream.

Cools stuff, all we need now is a sampler with automatable loop start and end points and a convolution reverb and it will be perfect.
