If you don't go in on publication day they rarely have any copies of CM left, and certainly not if you can't get in until the week after!
They won't stock more copies because "that's all decided at head office", and on two separate occasions when I missed a copy I was told, less than a week after publication date, that all the remaining copies had been parcelled up and sent back to the distributor. I think I am dealing with androids.
As I can't subscribe because my letter box is too small(!) and I can't always afford to buy every issue (won't bore you with a sob story), how about putting an occasional list of stockists on a forthcoming DVD. A zipped txt file wouldn't take much space, and you could divide it monthly by region? As far as I can tell WH Smith is the ONLY stockist in Cheltenham and it would be nice to know if there are any alternatives who would not require me to take up the equivilent of a subscription.
Also- I did have all but a few issues of Computer Music until recently, but space considerations meant all but the most essential articles had to be binned. Loose pages in binders are still space consuming. It would be good if the magazine itself could be archived to PDF and put on the DVD. Or maybe a year's worth could be put on the Christmas DVD, or even sold at a reasonable price from your web site - maybe in the latter case with an annual index to content.
Perhaps you could solve both my problems together by making an electronic version of the magazine and DVD content available (maybe in rar archive form) for purchase from the magazine web site. These days with reasonable speed broadband it is not unheard of to be able to download a few Gigs of data, especially if all the advertising bumph was winnowed out. On the other hand a DVD containing a PDF of the magazine would be small enough to fit through my letter box......
I hope you consider the above.
Regards,
DG

20mins? What a waste of time it was watching it. Far too short.. Far too rushed. Very very poor. Seemed like a total lack of effort on your part.
Probably one of the worst PM's that I have ever seen. I'm a regular buyer of your Mag - but I actually wish that I had passed on this one.
Honestly - anyone who knows this publication expects value for money & usually we get it. Given the current climate.. I'm sure that I'm not alone in thinking whether or not I should still really be buying both Computer Music & Future Music each month. We expect VFM now more than ever. This was one Masterclass that I personally could have done without ever seeing.
I look forward to your next issue & hope the next Masterclass lives up to its description.
Cheers,
J
